Residents who are at least 55 years of age or differently abled adults of any age are able to arrange curb-to-curb transportation on the City SMART van for all activities of daily living.  The van is wheelchair accessible.  If you are using a walker or are unable to handle steps, the lift is available to bring you into the vehicle. Forty-eight hours (48 hour) advance notice is required and the travel distance must be within a seven-mile radius.  The fee is $1 each way.  Call248-581-2712 between 9:00 AM and noon, Monday through Friday, to schedule a ride.  Funded in part by Beaumont Health

Smart Connector Transportation

Monday - Friday, 6:00 am - 6:00 pm

While the city transportation program is on hold, SMART is an excellent alternative.

SMART is a curb-to-curb, advance reservation service. Rides are available on a first come, first served basis.  Connector Service allows customers to remain active, healthy, and independent by picking up at the curb of their home or destination!

All vehicles are equipped with lifts to accommodate wheelchairs and scooters, as well as for those using canes and walkers. Since SMART picks up other passengers along the way, please be sure to mention any mobility aids you will be bringing with you at the time of booking.

For your safety, and the safety of our drivers, at no time is the driver:
  • Allowed to enter into your home
  • Assist a passenger with their belongings
  • Push a manual wheelchair or operate the controls of a power wheelchair or scooter.
  • Help passengers
Call 866.962-5515 Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 4:00 pm to schedule a ride. For medical trips, passengers may call up to 6 days in advance. A 48-hours advance notice is required, and the travel distance must be within a 10-mile radius of your home.  For more information, smartbus.org.

GoGoGrandparent Option for Residents 60+

The City's Senior Advisory Committee has partnered with GoGoGrandparent to provide transportation options for older residents who want to arrange for transportation in the evenings, on weekends or for longer distances than the SMART transportation program offers.

For those who do not use a smartphone or smartphone apps, a service called GoGoGrandparent is an interface between seniors and the Uber/Lyft ride programs. The City is introducing a pilot program to encourage older residents to consider this option for transportation. GoGoGrandparent sets up an account over the phone or online. When transportation is needed, call GoGoGrandparent and a driver is located for the ride.   Huntington Woods residents age 60 + who use GoGoGrandparent will receive $5 off their first two rides.  Call GoGoGrandparent at 1.855.464.6872 to sign up and get more information.
