Mayor Pro Tem Jeff Jenks

Mayor Pro Tem Jeff Jenks moved to Huntington Woods in 1971. He was first elected to the City Commission in 1999 and then reelected every 4 years. Prior to that he served on the Library Advisory board for 6 years, including 3 years as Chair. He will stand for reelection as a City Commissioner in November 2019. As City Commissioner for Huntington Woods he helps set city policy. He currently serves as a member of the Library Advisory and Zoning boards (1/1/19) and as Legislative liaison to Lansing. He was also the Mayor Pro Tem in FY 2014. That position is rotated annually. Within Huntington Woods Jenks is a member of the Men's Club and is a supporter of school youth programs. Jenks has a certificate as a Citizen Planner, after having completed the one year program at Michigan State University and is also a Fellow of the bipartisan Michigan Political Leadership Program.

Jenks was Chair of the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments (2015-2016). As Chair he represented seven (7) counties in SE Michigan, more than 150 communities, the Intermediate School Districts and some of the community colleges in our region. Approximately 4.7 million people, nearly half the population of the State of Michigan, reside in the area represented by SEMCOG. He currently serves as an elected member of the Executive Committee representing all cities and villages in Oakland County. In 2007 Jenks was awarded a competitive Taubman Fellowship by SEMCOG to attend Harvard's Kennedy School of Government and completed the Executive Education program for Senior Executives in State and Local Government. Jenks has also served as Vice Chair of the regional Metropolitan Affairs Coalition.

At the state level Jenks has been active with the Michigan Municipal League since the day after he was elected to office in Huntington Woods. He is Past President of MML (2007 to 2008). He was awarded an Honorary Life Membership in the MML in 2015. At MML he currently is a SaveMICity Ambassador working to increase State and Federal funding to local communities.

At the national level Jenks has completed three levels of leadership training and education at the National League of Cities.

Professionally Jenks owns a travel agency. He is active with Kiwanis, where he's a past president, on boards in the Filipino community, active in the Jewish community, active with Voices for Earth Justice in Detroit, supports programs and students in the Philippines, supports special needs students in SE Michigan and is active in interfaith work. He is retired from 35 years of university and state government leadership, primarily in the fields of fund-raising for Wayne State, Research Director at the Michigan Department of Civil Rights and Metro Compliance Supervisor at the Michigan Department of Transportation. He was an original member of the Peace Corps (1962-1964), serving in the Philippines. He is married. He is committed to adding public value.
